Iraq: The Untold Tales
Introduction
Reports of the American led invasion of Iraq filled up enormous amounts
of airtime and endless newspaper columns, but the stories circulating
in Iraqi communities, at local mosques, Arab gatherings or on Arab
websites, told different tales.
I decided to write stories that reflected what the Iraqis I met here in
Toronto and the Iraqis I learned about through Arab websites and blogs
had to say about the war in Iraq. I pieced together a range of their
experiences, concerns and struggles into stories and poems.

“Whether
Bayan Khatib seats us at the kitchen table stuffing grape leaves with
teasing teenagers, or takes us on a heart stopping ride on a rickety
bike with a middle-aged mother, we’re fully
there.”
